Santorum & Perkins: bizarrely wrong on the Economy & Gays

Can any two men be more wrong on something than these two fellows Rick Santorum and Tony Perkins? I mean, really – outlawing gay marriage and even us very gay people ourselves will improve the economy? Are you kidding? How? Let’s look at their astonishing mush. And one is running for president with the other advising him? No wonder the country is falling apart, you got idiots trying to run the place. Hell, John Boehner seems to be buying into this crud, too, and with gay tax dollars to boot!

First, I saw this article: http://www.ontopmag.com/article.aspx?id=9776&MediaType=1&Category=26

First, the normal stuff, for somewhere in their pablum are a few nice things:

[T]he biggest problem with poverty in America, and we don’t talk about here, because it’s an economic discussion – and that is the breakdown of the American family,” said Santorum.

You want to look at the poverty rate among families that have two – that have a husband and wife working in them? It’s 5 percent today. A family that’s headed by one person? It’s 30 percent today. We need to do something, we need to talk about economics. The home – the word ‘home’ in Greek is the basis of the word ‘economy.’ It is the foundation of our country. We need to have a policy that supports families, that encourages marriage.”

Yes, indeed, heteros have certainly broken down the family. All those single mothers? Why, hetero mommies. With hetero daddies who have done gone off and perhaps even sowed some other wild oats. The stats are correct, I suppose, close enough. And whom is poor? Why, heteros! Who is on welfare of any kind, you know, food stamps, public housing, cash to mothers with dependent children? Why heteros! Yes, indeed, Mr. Santorum and Mr. Perkins – you all need to get a grip on your people.

Why the heterosexual lifestyle is one riven with poverty, violence, divorce, killings, stalkings, abortion, child abuse, the kids in foster care and child protection, and the mothers in safe houses from rampaging hetero men intent on beating the poor gal into submission – on and on, the newspapers and Nancy Grace and Jerry Springer, Dateline and the nightly news are filled with the horrors of the breakdown in the American family. You guys got work to do!

And your solution is? You know, how you plan on actually solving the troubles of the heterosexual families of America? And getting our economy moving again? Why, you have bizarrely come up with the very simple solution of outlawing gay people! It’s astounding – clearly you two are simple minded men. Clearly you have simply no earthly clue as to how to solve the heterosexual lifestyle problem if you think outlawing gay marriage, and even outlawing gay folks and incarcerating us, to force a cure upon us even, in a demonic pile of bile that you two have said, is the way to do it. You two are out of your ever lovin’ minds, seriously so.

Republican presidential candidate and former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum also spoke at the rally. He told the roughly three dozen people gathered in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn that one-man, one-woman marriage is the glue that holds together the American family, and families form the nation’s foundation.

Yes, indeed, and you heteros are quite adept at that, astoundingly so, with nary a concern in the world you get married, and divorced, and remarried, and divorced, and remarried, leaving behind a trail of single mothers. Go ask Newt Gingrich and Donald Trump, they’ll tell you how it works. Hell, go ask Jerry Springer, he’s got so many examples of your problem it’s not funny. But what the hell do gay folks have to do with this? We’re not the ones leaving behind the burden of single mothers. We ain’t getting anyone pregnant – that’s your chief complaint about us – we don’t make babies – and then you have the nerve to blame gay people for the familial carnage? That, sirs, is audacity & lunacy in unholy alliance.

Call us sick all you want, birth defect, demented, oh I don’t care – but don’t blame us for all the kids while at the same time decrying us not having any kids! That’s nuts. You can’t be that obtuse, even clinically dense, can you?

“Our country is not founded on the individual,” Santorum said. “It is founded on the basic unit of society, which is the family. You don’t want to found your society on individuals, because that’s like founding a house on grains of sand.”

That’s funny, neither the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence includes the word “family,” and no husband and wife signed either document together as a family. And the society is indeed based on individual rights, and indeed, the “rugged individual” is one of the hallmarks of our nation. And hell, Thomas Jefferson who wrote the Declaration of Independence was single at the time, and if the story is true, in a bi-racial unmarried child-filled relationship – I dare say, that’s a bit of “tradition” one can’t avoid in the debate, is it? And George Washington famously had no children. What are you talking about? Do you know your history, gentlemen? Apparently not.

Not only that, you want to deny gay couples recognition, or even that we exist, and even outlawing such a thing, forcing us to operate as the very individuals you decry – and then, when we offer to adopt your abandoned progeny, left in state care at public expense – you tell us we’re wrecking the family. It’s beyond bad logic, it’s beyond lousy reasoning, into a tortuous mush that is over the border into stupidity or a nasty hatred of some evil kind. I let you chose which.

“You want to get the economy going again? We need to put a focus on marriage and on children, because that is our future,” Perkins said. “Look at the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and growing the GDP – we’ll never grow the GDP with a shrinking population.”

A “shrinking population”? Um, gentlemen, this nation is growing at a steady clip. This country is having scads of babies, so many, there’s an apparent surplus; there’s even many killed before seeing the light of day – another problem gay people have nothing to do with. And immigration is proceeding apace, legal and illegal, anchor babies and all. Indeed, you are concerned both with a “shrinking population” and too many single mothers burdening the system with kids in poverty – which kids cannot be coming from gay relationships, as you well know.

And what does Mr. Perkins’ boyfriend Peter Sprigg propose as a good solution to the “shrinking population” myth? – “Exporting” gay people! And I think, so you want more people, so you’ll round up 10 or 20 million, and get rid of them? Somehow I don’t think that works mathematically. “Less is more” is not good with math. Yes, indeed, do focus on marriage and children, but how banning gay marriage and us adopting your excess children is conceivably “for” what you want is impossible to demonstrate. Why, the very proposal is opposite to what you want.

Here’s the clincher to this bizarre mush:

http://www.ontopmag.com/article.aspx?id=9791&MediaType=1&Category=26

During the upcoming legislative session, lawmakers in New Hampshire are expected to consider repealing the state’s gay marriage law.

Perkins told the crowd that such a move would perk up the economy.

He’s kidding, right? New Hampshire has one of the lowest poverty rates in the nation, and it has one of the lowest unwed, single mother populations, and one of the lowest crime rates – why, it’s almost the Switzerland of the 50 states. It also has gay marriage. While, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, West Virginia all ban gay marriage, and yet have the highest rates of poverty and unwed, and single mothers, and divorce, and violence. Obviously, banning gay marriage does not solve any ills that concern you. Clearly, the very idea that if gay marriage has any effect on anything you heterosexuals do – it would seem to have a positive effect.

Massachusetts has gay marriage – it’s a rich place, a far lower poverty rate than South Carolina, which bans gay marriage. Less divorces than Oklahoma, ditto on the ban, less crime than Michigan, ditto on the ban. So then by what logic can you deduce that banning gay marriage helps heterosexuals? In what way will allowing a nice thing to be said about a static cohort within every single population group in the world – the same 4-5% or – it never goes up or down, it’s not higher in one place or another, it’s like autism or birth defects – just a static amount – so what do we have to do with anything? Why, you could round us all up and incarcerate us together? For what? For being together? This you call reasonable public policy?

Weirdly, Perkins’ group, along with AFTAH and NARTH, and NOM, are all quite sure that absent fathers cause gay people – why, this theory that the absent or weak father is the cause of boys becoming gay is a mainstay of the whole gay debate. It’s in so many books and theories in one guise or the other it’s beyond belief. Of course, so is the strong and overbearing mother theory too, but hey, you guys sort that out OK? But Santorum & Perkins’ concern of all the single mothers – ergo, absent fathers – having all those kids – why, there should be tens of millions of more gay guys! Why, the very laboratory experiment to prove or disprove this contention has been done right before your eyes.

And what can one conclude? Well, apparently, whether there’s a father or mother around doesn’t seem to make a kid gay at all. Must be something else, eh? Maybe it’s just natural, eh? Nah, you can’t handle that truth, gentlemen, you two are bonkers.

Now, to help the economy you want to ban gay marriage, ban gay smooching, and just plain ol’ ban gay existence – both of you are on record as saying you want us gone – somehow, someway, I don’t think you would care if we all up and committed suicide like at Masada, rather than be taken by tyrants like you. I would think you’d almost argue for us committing mass suicide rather than be gay and happy. But you call for arresting us and taking us out of our jobs – this will help the economy? You call for our incarceration – at a cost of what 100s of billions of dollars? To build the prisons, to staff them with guards – and your going to need lots of them, for we’ll smooch the live long day, what with nothing else to do, unless you keep us apart all the time. Maybe you think this will be punishment, us living on your dime.

Or are you just so delusional that you think if you outlaw gayness we’ll all stop being gay in the AM and find a girl? You can’t be serious, can you? Do you not listen to us? Will you not finally accede to the reality we keep telling you – we are born gay – get over it already. If you can’t, at least stop the imbecilic claim that outlawing gay marriage will help the economy – it’s outlawed in every state but 6 – and legal among the six richest, least divorced, least poverty stricken, least violent, least unwed mothers states in the Union.

Clearly, you can’t help the economy in the other 44 states by outlawing gay marriage, again, and again, and again. North Carolina will probably pass a constitutional amendment next year, we’ll see how that helps the unemployment and heterosexual marriage and the poverty level – what a fine experiment you got going – double outlaw gay marriage, and presto, North Carolina should be boom town USA!

You got laws, you got constitutional amendments – what else could you possibly pass against gay marriage that would help the heterosexual family disasters which fill the poorest states of this nation? This I got to hear. Oh, that’s right, you want a law against our very existence – and this you think will solve the deficit, the unemployment and get this nation going again? You two are out of your minds. Go home and get off the hustings already, you are political failures and strange irrational ideologues, which have no place in this nation.

All you could get is 3 dozen people in a Holiday Inn parking lot? There are probably more gay couples working in that Holiday Inn. I get it, you don’t like me, go away, don’t tread on me.
