Is this what the No Gays Lobby wants?

There are always connections in my mind between so many things. For nothing truly stands alone. No man or political musing is an island. And so I encounter four stories today that are related in a subtle way. One is Archibald Hart, a rotund grandfatherly man who speaks in the measured tones of an English accent about what he claims to know about “homosexuality” as a Christian counselor and some sort of expert on neuropsychology. Another is Rich Lowry’s column today in my Advocate about what he calls “The Madness Lobby.” The third is a bit about the anti-gay laws of Jamaica, that tropical idyll south of Cuba. The final one is that holiday spending was not quite what it was cracked up to be.

Mr. Hart is sure that “homosexuality” is a problem – he has a PowerPoint presentation to prove it! Though he does admit that he can’t “solve the whole problem.” This is what I glean from a 2:33 minute video at www.goodasyou.org. Well, no, I bet he can’t. For he sees the problem as thus: there’s a homosexual lobby of some sort that is now giving an “invitation” to straight men to “engage in a new form of sexual pleasure, new sexual outlets.

Now this I did not know. I was not informed by any gay person I know, and I know a lot, nor by any gay website, and I go to a lot, that we gay men now have a program to introduce straight men to the wonders of gayness and societal scorn by using the phrase “men who have sex with men.” The phrase must be mighty powerful. How such a phrase can be so powerful he does not say. Apparently it’s by not saying “Gay men who have sex with gay men.” Well, that’s sort of redundant, and a waste of words, and I’m a profligate word waster, as you’ll see, for it’s a long post, but please, follow along.

Mr. Hart is worried that those of us who “feel those tendencies” (A.K.A. Gay men) will be working diligently to make merry with the “flexible and plastic minds of teen boys” who don’t have “those tendencies” to somehow all of a sudden have “those tendencies.

But doesn’t this mean that he thinks that gay men are natural? And thus, what’s the beef? If we have “those tendencies” wouldn’t one have to admit that such tendencies exist sort of off the cuff, naturally? I would think logic would dictate such a conclusion. Mr. Hart is somehow sure, from his vast studies of neuropsychology – whatever that is – (and gained, no doubt, when he was not studying the Word of God, which he does says is the answer to the “problem”) — that young straight men can be led astray by old gay men. Which is, apropos of yesterdays’ post, a sort of blood libel.

However, what he must also mean is that being straight must be taught and inculcated, the “invitation” given, to use the gentleman’s word, to young straight men to be straight. Though I guess, that won’t work with those of us who have “those tendencies.” And also presupposes that being straight is not as natural as all get all.

But then, after seeing his video of muddled mushiness and scandalous heaving of calumny against gay folks for even pretending that we have a program to somehow make straight boys gay, and not just make sure that gay boys grow up to be fine gay men despite the heaving of such calumny, I come to Rich Lowry’s Madness Lobby column. I do think Mr. Hart misses our agenda by a mile. And in fact, I think he could well be part of a Madness Lobby not of the sort that Lowry speaks of – the one which protects and keeps out in public the truly crazed people of this nation. The “according to psychiatrist E. Fuller Torrey, 4 million people [who] have a serious mental illness” demographic. And Mr. Lowry goes on to quite rightly point out that a little more intervention to prevent harm by psychiatric patients is probably a good thing. And yes, I think it is. I’m just not sure what the solution to that problem is. But letting them live on subway grates and in dumpsters surely is not the Christian Compassionate Conservative thing to do.

But if we listen to Archibald Hart, and of course my pals, Tony Perkins, Peter Sprigg, Peter LaBarbera, Maggie Gallagher, and of course, all those politicians, like Justice Antonin Scalia, and my governor Bobby Jindal, and US Congresswoman Michelle Bachman and Senator John McCain and presidential aspirant Pawlenty and Lord knows how many other otherwise fine folks who join in with the tenets of the Family Research Council and divers “family values” groups, then the number of people who have a “serious mental illness” is vastly under reported by Dr. Torrey. Indeed, since by Hart’s Et. Al’s definition, those of us with “those tendencies,” or as Carl Paladino famously put it, those whom “God did not create us like that,” are neuropsychologically crazy the number of lunatics in the nation would seem to be some 24,000,000. The 4 million counted by Torrey, and the 20,000,000 gay folks.

And couldn’t such a word like neuropsychology be shortened to psychiatric? Yes I think it can. For the Psychiatric issue is neuro, and the dealing with it is psychological, and medical, then, well, that’s psychiatry. Oh well, so much for big fancy new words of academia, eh?

Now, the Family Research Council, aided and abetted by Mr. Hart, and the aforementioned and unmentioned politicians wants to recriminalize gay sex. They’re quite sure of it, to protect those without “those tendencies” for sure. And to prevent any flexible plasticity from a-happening.

Now, let’s turn to www.izzoiz.com which brings me a slightly old post that says:

“Jamaica has been described by human-rights groups as the most homophobic place on earth due to the hate speech and bias motivated crimes often directed at LGBT people.

Jamaican criminal code prohibits sex between men, as is the case in much of the English-speaking Caribbean. Article 76 of the Offences Against the Person Act states:

Whosoever shall be convicted of the abominable crime of buggery, committed either with mankind or with any animal, shall be liable to be imprisoned and kept to hard labour for a term not exceeding ten years.

Article 77 adds:

Whosoever shall attempt to commit the said abominable crime, or shall be guilty of any assault with intent to commit the same, or of any indecent assault upon any male person, shall be guilty of a misdemeanour, and being convicted thereof, shall be liable to be imprisoned for a term not exceeding seven years, with or without hard labour.

Article 79 further states:

Any male person who, in public or private, commits, or is a party to the commission of, or procures or attempts to procure the commission by any male person of, any act of gross indecency with another male person, shall be guilty of a misdemeanour, and being convicted thereof shall be liable at the discretion of the court to be imprisoned for a term not exceeding two years, with or without hard labour.

“Gross indecency” is not defined, but has been interpreted to include male homosexual conduct between consenting adults in private.[4]

According to the Human Rights Activist Peter Tatchell, homophobia is not authentic Jamaican culture. It was imposed on the people of Jamaica in the nineteenth century by British colonisers and their Christian missionary allies.

Now, is this the sort of legal regime that the Gay Madness Lobby is really looking for? I do wish they’d just fess up to it, and bring their position to the fore, instead of fighting a rear guard retreat in stopping the nefarious gay lobby of maniacal hairdressers and interior designers from destroying “Good Christian Boys” as Mr. Hart calls them. It’s unmanly and unChristian to not put your light upon the basket. Speak up, fella’s. Let the nation know you’d like Jamaica style laws – for the good of the people.

Meanwhile, at http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Holiday-spending-record-not-apf-1666294445.html?x=0

is:

Holiday spending reached the highest level on record last year, but that news isn’t as good as it sounds.

The $462 billion in holiday spending reported by a trade group on Friday handily tops the $453 billion peak reached in 2007, before the economy took a nosedive. Take a closer look, though, and you’ll find these figures don’t tell the whole story.

Just because Americans spent more this holiday season doesn’t mean they bought more. That button-down shirt you bought your father in 2010 probably cost more than it would have three years ago. But the government figures on which the National Retail Federation bases its holiday sum do not take into account rising prices. Although inflation has been tame over the past few years, holiday spending would have had to clear $478 billion to signify spending was back to pre-recession levels.

That’s not all.

The population of the U.S. has grown by 8 million people since the previous record was set. That means there were millions more shoppers in stores this Christmas, driving up the sales total. But the average spending per person is still lower than it was a few years ago, suggesting consumers are still slower to pull out their wallets.

Ergo, the Gay Madness Lobby is missing the true threat to families, society, and young Christian boys:

It’s the Economy, Dummies! Not the 400,000 new gay boys (5% of the 8 million increase, natch!)

And it’s also a reminder, that article is, that economics is all about the ratios and relationships between the data. Not just “Holiday sales are higher than last years” — for inflation alone would make the exact same number of goods sold be represented by a higher number of dollars year over year, making sales look higher when they are in fact the same. But economics is too often expressed in just dry single point data that excludes the relationships.

Like, economically, if gay folks are all arrested, then the prison expense would rise astronomically at the same time that our tax dollar contributions would collapse precipitously. Which could not be good for anyone. Except gay folks, oddly. For with all those gay sissy boys now hard laboring in some sort of weird Club Med a la Montego Bay, well, then, that’s big buff boy fun behind bars. Which is a sort of madness, no? To want that? Yes, I do believe.

What Mr. Hart and buddies fail to see, is that gay folks are like potted plants. We just stand in the corner and look pretty. And absolutely no one whom God did not make like that is going to experiment and be given those tendencies by upsetting the flexible and plastic minds of anyone.
