Stone cold crazy

Nibbles & Bits

An investigation by The Sunday Telegraph has uncovered widespread cuts planned across the NHS, many of which have already been agreed by senior health service officials. They include:

* Restrictions on some of the most basic and common operations, including hip and knee replacements, cataract surgery and orthodontic procedures.

* Plans to cut hundreds of thousands of pounds from budgets for the terminally ill, with dying cancer patients to be told to manage their own symptoms if their condition worsens at evenings or weekends.

* The closure of nursing homes for the elderly.

Well, I have no problem with the National Health Service cutting its services. Indeed, I welcome the recognition that they are hopelessly inept at providing health care because what they really provide is BureauCare. Virtually no form and the bureaucrat in whose hands it lies, or policy paper, nor budget projection, by any National Health Service anywhere in the world adds one iota of anything to health care. Health care is doctors, and nurses, and lab technicians, it’s medical device manufacturers and pill purveyors. It’s just about everything except a bureaucrat.

So cut away, NHS. But there’s a corollary >> every entrepreneurial medical professional MUST be allowed to set up shop. Every doctor and nurse laid off, every hospital and clinic closed, MUST be allowed to go to private individual entities, from sole practitioner to medical group.

If that is not allowed, then it’s just bureaucrats killing people.

Which brings me to Oliver Stone.

Ollie does claim to be quite the precise writer of the English language. In movie after movie he is lauded for his “brilliant” use of our native tongue. Indeed, I believe he’s won awards for such prowess of text that Shakespeare himself is challenged for greatness. Or so it’s said.

But then old Ollie had to say this:

In trying to make a broader historical point about the range of atrocities the Germans committed against many people, I made a clumsy association about the Holocaust, for which I am sorry and I regret,” Stone said today in a statement released by his publicist, Rubenstein Communications.

Stone also discussed a project in the works, “Secret History of America.” He told the Times “Hitler was a Frankenstein, but there was also a Dr. Frankenstein. German Industrialists, the Americans and the British. He had a lot of support. Hitler did far more damage to the Russians than the Jewish people.

Well, then, sometimes things are good with nibbles and bits of, um, extraneous facts – true, Hitler was enabled – by Joseph Kennedy, Teddy’s dad, and FDR’s ambassador to England. And by the abdicated King Edward VIII, who was hustled off to Bermuda, like a privileged Napoleon, to wait out the war. He was enabled most famously by the great socialist and Keynesian, Neville Chamberlain. Indeed, “peace in our time,” did Neville say, by giving away Czechoslovakia to Hitler. Of course Hitler wanted the place not because of any Germans there, but because of the iron, coal and silver, and the shoe factories and metal works. And the hops, for Bohemian (Czech) hops is the best for the beer. And Hitler couldn’t get the Germans to kill so many Russians, Jews, and Poles, and French, and English, and even farm boys from Iowa, without tanking them up with Beer. Or so they all seemed to say once the carnage was done. “I was drunk!” Or was it “I was only following orders”? I forget.

But still, true, Hitler did kill more Russians than he killed Jews. Of course, at the time there were only 12 or 13 million Jews in Europe, and well over a 100,000,000 Russians. And Hitler was quite clear that he had every intention of killing the larger amount once he was done with the smaller. In fact, Hitler just seemed to want to kill anyone who was not German.

Still, Stalin, whom Stone thinks is just a misunderstood hydrant, (such English, he confuses tyrant with hydrant, oh well,) killed more Russians than Hitler did. For Stalin always thought he was better. And Mao killed more Chinese than Stalin killed Russians and Hitler killed Russians and Jews combined. And so in less than 40 or 50 years, from roughly 1923, when Stalin got going, through the 1933-1945 Reich, and then to the death of Stalin in 1953, with Mao overlapping from the Mid-1930s to 1976 or so, well, then some, oh, 200,000,000 people were wiped out. By three socialists. How odd. Not a capitalist or small businessman killed anyone in those 50 years, but three socialists, one of the national variety, one of the international variety, and one of the regional variety, (I can’t figure out which was which – hmm, they each wanted world domination for their brand of socialism, so I’ll let you pick,) went on a killing spree that would have made Attila the Hun blanch in shock and disgust.

And national health care costs declined appreciably, I’m sure. But Ollie thinks they’re misunderstood, and that, though he be careful with the language, mostly, he did make boo-boo when he said “It’s the Jews, stupid.” Which is quite a take on Carville’s “It’s the economy, stupid.” This latter is coming to an ObamaPlace near you, though the press be quite delusional.

From our Advocate this morning comes this fatuous headline:

“State’s economic outlook cloudy.”

Well, yes indeed. But then, this nice lady, Michelle Millhollon I suppose got the memo – for she starts off under a cloud and finds the sun! Immediately: “Across the country, state governments are starting to stabilize after a rough recession, according to a survey of state legislatures. Revenue is climbing. Consumers are spending. The worst of the financial decline could be over.”

She then spends the rest of the article right back under the clouds, as she must if she’s in reality land. Her further sentences refute, repute and even refudiate, her opening salvo of economic bliss a-coming under the watchful gaze of state legislators. 5 or 6 of the 10 biggest states are hopelessly in debt, and can’t even pay their bills, but still, things are turning the corner. Yah.

For then the shoe falls: “However, a new report concludes that Louisiana’s outlook is murkier, largely because …. stopped some drilling activity.”

What? Who stopped some drilling activity? Two Nobel prize winners and a spare commissar, that’s who. The president of the United States has decided to simply shut down an industry in this state. And this Millhollon lady is quite ready to give him a pass. Bizarre, but so Ezra Kleinish. You know, do something for the president.

So let’s see, she went to the legislators, too. Most of whom are up for reelection. And asked them to grade their own performance, since they all claim to be running the economy, and then takes at face value that they’ve done a fine job. Which one would expect them to say, as to secure their reelection. Sure m’lady, why not have the tenth graders grade their own history exams. That should work.

Meanwhile, also not rosy – just over the past few days the Advocate itself ran headlines like “housing sales down” “business construction down” “hiring down” “unemployment up” “schools have no money” “hospitals have no money” “more on food stamps” “more long term unemployed” — on and on comes the destruction of the productive economy, and Millhollon says “across the country” things are stabilizing. Which country? Beats me.

Well, then, yes, I suppose one could say that as the Titanic went beneath the waves it stabilized at a 45% angle to the water’s horizon and slid gently downward, its great mass slowed by the fricative power of the water, until, once again, gently achieving stability right there on the bottom of the sea. Where it’s been quite stable ever since. Not like some unruly ocean liner running around the global. And though not nearly as many killed as Jews under Stalin, or Hitler, on that Titanic, proportionately all the more, since it comprised 50% of the former living, rather than just a 20% cut as the socialists managed to do.

Which sort of unreal reckoning of the concept of the stability of a sinking ship, right back to a stone cold moment:

Right-wing extremists and Islamists, says Heinz Fromm, the president of the German domestic intelligence agency, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), are united by “a common bogeyman: Israel and the Jews as a whole.”

Now, that’s the quote and where I found it, and Mr. Jacobson of that site was talking of some matter of anti-Semitism in Germany of an astounding nature committed by muslims at a town festival: “Gone with the Jews” the children sang. No really, it was, just children singing. Which is rather crude, for the novel is “gone with the wind” of course, about the end of state sponsored slavery. Of the very sort practiced in Arabia right now. Of the very sort that the Mayor of New York, one Mike Bloomingidiot, is bringing to a sacred American killing field at this moment. When the muslims in NYC start to sing “gone with the Jews” what will the mayor say? Hmm.

Still, look at the “right wing extremist” thing. Funny how so many people think that the National Socialists are on the right, while the International Socialists are on the left. One would suppose, under this reading of the political spectrum, that the Regional Socialists are right there in the middle.

So on the right we have the German Nationals, then in the middle we have the Eurozone Regionals, and over there on the left is the World Soviets. Quite a trio for our political spectrum.

Where is the TEA Party, Libertarian, Anti-Big Government, Free Market Entrepreneurs and other assorted extremists for liberty? You know, those who don’t give a darn what you are, so long as you are either buying something or selling something. They’re nowhere here. Which is a neat trick for the socialist press, and assorted political types. Just define all government as some shade of socialism, and leave everyone else at the gates looking in, to wonder if they’ll be the ones slaughtered systematically at concentration points, slaughtered in their villages with famine, or just plain left to die in a benign slaughter. Like Goldilocks, we must all get just the right amount of socialism, with just the best killing methods that socialists can create.

“The jobs in the prison camps should be good jobs,” I think I heard Joe Biden say.
